In the context of greater economic hardships in many households due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, benefactors and members of the Executive Board worked hard together to increase to 21 the number of Bui Trong Chuong (BTC) scholarships for the academic year 2020-21 (cf. 14 scholarships in the 2019-20 school year); each is worth 11 million VND (cf. 10 million in the 2019-20 school year). Of the 21 award-winning students, 15 received the BTC for the first time and the remaining 6 (who had received BTC scholarships in the past year) continued to be the BTC scholarship recipients.
In addition, Mr. Tran Huu Phuc Tien (a member of the Executive Board and CEO of Vietnam Centrepoint Education & Media group) offered each student a foreign language award worth 10 million VND at Vietnam Centrepoint. This additional award has increased the total value received by each BTC scholarship holder to 21 million VND.
The BTC scholarship ceremony was held in the morning of September 5, 2020 at the Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted. In attendance were Ms. Truong Thi Le Ha (Vice Principal), many members of the Executive Board of the BTC Scholarship Fund (Mr./Ms. Vo Anh Dung, Tran Huu Phuc Tien, Le Nhut Tan, Nguyen Thi Tranh); and guests (Ms. Le Nguyen Minh Hien, Ms. Dang Thi Thien Chi -a former teacher at Petrus Ky-Le Hong Phong high school, and a representative of the parents of the scholarship recipients).
At the scholarship award ceremony, the Executive Board thanked Ms. Le Nguyen Minh Hien - a former student of Le Hong Phong High School in 2003-04 - for her contribution of 100 million VND to the BTC Scholarship Fund. Ms. Le Nguyen Minh Hien responded by sharing her own experiences with the scholarship winning students. The Executive Board also advised students to try their best to succeed in school and to support the next generation of students in the long run.
