Academic year 2017-18

For the academic year of 2017-18, three Bùi Trọng Chương scholarships, at 10 million VND each, have been awarded to Trần Mỹ Duyên, Đỗ Lưu Vỹ Long, and Trần Quốc Cường at the Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted. Mr. Trần Hữu Phúc Tiến (a member of the Executive Committee of the Bùi Trọng Chương Scholarship Fund and Director of Vietnam Centrepoint) has also awarded to each student an additional foreign language scholarship worth 7.5 million VND. Each student thus receives 17.5 million VND in scholarship in total. In addition, Vietnam Centrepoint also provides 2 foreign language scholarship awards of the same value to other students at the same school: Từ Huy Nam (a 12th grader specialized in Chinese and a second prize winner in Chinese in the national high school competition in 2016-17) and Đỗ Thế Thùy Trang (a 12th grader specialized in Literature, a recipient of Bùi Trọng Chương scholarship in 2016-17).


The Bùi Trọng Chương scholarship award ceremony this year was held on 14 August 2017, the first day of the 2017-18 academic year, in the courtyard of the Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted. Present were the Principal Nguyễn Thị Yến Trinh, Vice Principals Trương Thị Lệ Hà and Phạm Thị Bé Hiền, the teaching staff, students, as well as three Executive Committee members of the Bùi Trong Chương scholarship Fund: Mssrs. Võ Anh Dũng, Lương Văn Hy, and Trần Hữu Phúc Tiến.

1.     Trần Mỹ Duyên, Grade 12, specialized in Geography

Trần Mỹ Duyên has impressive records both in scholarship and extra-curricular activities. In the academic year 2016-17, Duyên ranked first in her class and got the first prize in a Geography contest held in Hồ Chí Minh City. She also received a Gold Medal in Geography in the April 30 Olympiad for students in the southern half of Vietnam. 

In extra-curricular activities, Duyên is a core member of Abundance 2016-Project Sugar, a project for HIV-infected children. She is also a volunteer in many other projects for children,  as well as a public relations person in  BUSTED Project.

Duyên lives with her (student) brother, her parents and her (paternal) grandmother. Her father is a small trader in office stationery, and her mother does not work due to health reasons.

Duyên aspires to study Geology or Petroleum Engineering in university. She also hopes to receive a scholarship to study overseas.

2.     Đỗ Lưu Vỹ Long, Grade 12, specialized in Chinese

Đỗ Lưu Vỹ Long is an outstanding 12th grader in a class specialized in Chinese at the Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted. Having a deep passion for History, he received a Gold Medal in History in the April 30 Olympiads in 2015-16 and 2016-17 for students in the southern half of Vietnam. He also loves Chinese, Literature, and Geography.

Long’s father passed away two years ago. He lives with his mother, a small market trader, his (maternal) uncle, and his (maternal) grandmother.

Soft-spoken, articulate, and confident, Long hopes to become a teacher.

3.     Trần Quốc Cường, Grade 11, specialized in Mathematics

Trần Quốc Cường is an excellent 11th grader specialized in Mathematics at the Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted.

Cường’s mother is a custodial staff at an elementary school. His father works as a security guard and suffers from spinal dislocation. His family does not gain high income, but has to face with his father’s high medical expenditures.

Cường aspires either to study Medicine in Vietnam, or to study overseas .
