Academic year 2018-2019

Thanks to the strong support of donors and Executive Committee members, the Bùi Trọng Chương Scholarship Fund (BTCSF) increased the number of scholarships from 3 in 2017-18 to 6 in 2018-19. Following the interviews of 6 nominees at the Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted (LHPHSG) in Saigon, the five members of BTCSF Executive Committee in Saigon unanimously voted to award scholarships to all six interviewees.

Mr. Trần Hữu Phúc Tiến (BTCSF Executive Committee member and Director of Vietnam Centrepoint) also provided additional awards to the 6 recipients as supplements to Bùi Trọng Chương scholarships. Specifically, Vietnam Centrepoint gave 4 bursaries to study foreign language (worth 7.5 million VND each), and 2 bursaries valued at over 20 million VND each for science classes conducted in English and additional foreign language instruction. Centrepoint’s bursaries raised the amount received by each student from 10 million VND (standard value of a Bùi Trọng Chương scholarship) to 17.5 million VND or over 30 million VND.

A scholarship award ceremony was held at LHPHSG on 14 August 2018, the first day of the 2018-19 academic year. In attendance were Vice Principal Trương Thị Lệ Hà, many teachers, and virtually all grade-12 students, 4 members of the BTCSF Executive Committee (Mssr. Lương Văn Hy, Trần Hữu Phúc Tiến, Lê Nhựt Tân, and Ms. Phùng Thị Thu Thủy); as well as Ms. Nguyễn Thị Tranh, Director General of Saigon Coop Investment & Development Corporation (SCID). The generous donation of 200 million VND from her and her daughter will enable the Bùi Trọng Chương Scholarship Fund to award 20 additional scholarships (at 10 million VND each) in the next 4 academic years.
