In both 2011-12 and 2012-13, Doan Chi Hang was a gold medalist in the competition among over 3000 gifted high school students in South Vietnam. In the 2012-13 school year, Hang also won the first prize in chemistry in the annual Ho Chi Minh City high school competition. While in the 11th grade, Hang also won the third prize in chemistry in the annual national competition, competing with mostly grade-12 students. In 2013-14, as a grade-12 student, Hang won the second prize in chemistry in this competition.

Doan Chi Hang’s father passed away when Hang was in grade 6. He and his elder brother have been raised by their mother and paternal aunt since then.
In addition to chemistry, Hang also loves literature, English, and computer science. He plans to study chemistry (or a closely related subject) at the undergraduate and graduate levels. When completing his university education, he plans to teach in areas of his expertise.
Mssr. Luong Van Hy and Lam Vinh The, two former students of Mr. Bui Trong Chuong and also members of the Scholarship Fund Executive committee, have contributed 8 million VND to the Bui Trong Chuong scholarship awarded to Doan Chi Hang in December 2013. (The Fund has no income in 2013 since donations have been invested only as of 6 December 2013. As an endowment, the principal cannot be used to award scholarships.) Le Hong Phong high school also contributes 2 million VND in order to increase the value of the Bui Trong Chuong scholarship to 10 million VND.
On 22 December 2013, Mr. Vo Anh Dung (Petrus Ky 66-72 and currently Principal of Le Hong Phong school) kindly arranged for Mr. Luong Van Hy (Petrus Ky 68-71) to meet with the scholarship recipient Doan Chi Hang at Le Hong Phong high school.
