Academic year 2014-2015

The Bùi Trọng Chương scholarship of 10 million VND for the 2014-15 academic year has been awarded to Lâm Hoàng Phúc, an 11th-grade student specialized in literature at the Lê Hồng Phong high school.

Lâm Hoàng Phúc was designated an outstanding student for his academic achievements in grade 10. He also received the gold medal in the Grade 10 literature competition of the academic Olympics for the southern half of Vietnam. In 2014-15, Phúc is ranked first in the literature competition among high school students for a spot on the Hồ Chí Minh City team for the national high school academic contest. In the academic year 2014-15, although he was only in the 11th grade and had to compete mostly with 12th graders, Phúc won the third prize. (He received the second prize in this national contest in 2015-16.)

Lâm Hoàng Phú was born in An Giang province. When his mother passed away 13 years ago, he and his younger brother (1 month old at the time) were ra ised by their paternal grandparents in Định Quán District, Đồng Nai Province. He attended Tây Sơn junior high school in Định Quán.  In 2013, Phúc succeeded in the strong competition to enter Lê Hồng Phong high school, a competition in which only students with excellent academic records could participate, and less than 600 students were admitted out of a few thousand candidates. Phúc is currently living with his junior uncle, father, and aunt in a small house which his uncle has rented both for the living quarter of the family and for manufacturing motorcycle parts. His father assists his uncle in this business.

In addition to literature, Phúc loves to study mathematics. He aspires to become a university lecturer in literature.
